When it helps

Separate availability, performance and quality to show where planned productive time is lost.

Data and preparation

Planned production time, run time, ideal cycle, total count and good count

Practical workflow

  1. Define the time base and classification rules.
  2. Calculate Availability, Performance and Quality.
  3. Drill down from the score to the actual losses.
  4. Prioritise one loss and launch actions.
  5. Verify the effect on components, not only total OEE.

Connection to AIAG

This is a supporting Continuous Improvement method, not an AIAG Core Tool. In QAPP, findings can feed a CQI-20/8D problem-solving workflow and, when the process risk/control changes, trigger review of PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA/SPC or other applicable Core Tool records.

Interpretation limits

Do not use the tool as a ritual. Define a measurable problem, baseline and decision rule, then verify whether the change improved the process without creating another risk.
